New drag and drop applet

Hello everyone! I’m excited to be doing my first official post here at Box. As some of you know, I signed on as Director of Engineering in July and have been having a great time helping to direct the datacenter move over the past couple months. The move has resulted in far more stability and a bit of speed increase. We are still having a couple hiccups now and then adjusting to our new hardware architecture, but overall it’s been a large improvement.

Also over the past month or two, we have been testing a new Drag and Drop applet that we developed in house. (Previously we used a third party applet.) The coolest thing about this applet (besides a more advanced interface) is that an upload can actually survive a break in connection, either on your end or ours. So if you leave your computer on overnight for a large upload and you get disconnected, the applet will continue the upload right where it left off when it reconnects. You can even go from a wired connection to a wifi connection and still continue the same upload. We think this will significantly help with getting larger files to Box.

Please do note that this is still beta software; if you run in to any problems, or have any feedback in general, please don’t hesitate to e-mail us at support@box.net. Thanks!
