Box.net fundraising and 2008

We’re very excited to announce that we recently closed our Series B round led by US Venture Partners. USVP has a wealth of experience working with SaaS, enterprise, consumer, and storage technology companies. This capital infusion comes at a great time for us, especially given the recent growth Box.net has seen seeing in the business space. Like many other “2.0″ startups, Box.net has straddled between the personal and professional worlds– you may start using us to share photos, but we ultimately become a way to work with your marketing team, and vice versa. The power and potential of “everything in the cloud” enables this type of flexibility and mobility.

Thanks in large part to this new funding, you’ll see a lot of very cool things come out of Box throughout 2008, including:

  • Better ways to collaborate with clients, colleagues and friends
  • More ways to use your data with OpenBox Services
  • Additional ways to get to your Box (devices and software)
  • Improved scalability of Box in your enterprise or large business

In other news… we’re hiring! If you’re in Sales, Support, or Engineering, send in your resume to hiring@box.net. You can see all of our open positions at www.box.net/jobs

Help test our new collaboration functionality

In preparation for our new ‘Collaboration’ feature launch, we’d like to invite interested users to join our beta-test list.  With Collaboration, you can share folders across Box accounts, meaning you and any number of other Box users can access and work within the same folder, each from inside your own Box accounts.  All collaborators with access to the shared folder will see it in their account and can upload/download/edit files based on the permissions you grant them.  This is perfect for working on projects with friends, clients, contractors, colleagues, etc.

Just email aaron@Box.net if you’d like to be added to the beta list.

Thanks,
Aaron

Desktop in the cloud? How about the cloud on your desktop…

Our friends at gOS are announcing the latest version of their operating system at CES this week. We’re very excited to be a part of the package being offered, including Google Apps, Meebo, Facebook, etc. It’s very impressive to see this product, representing the best of web-based computing, priced and positioned for the masses. And it makes perfect sense… when considering services or applications you use in your non-working hours, they’re likely all web-based. Whether you’re streaming your music from Pandora or poking your friends on Facebook, you really don’t need anything aside from your web browser.

If you want one of these machines for yourself, you can buy them online at Wal-mart.com for only $200.
