Box Gives Thanks By Giving Back

At Box, we focus the majority of our energy on developing and enhancing tools that make sharing simple, but we also like to share in other ways, too.

We recently joined forces with HP to outfit Sherwood Elementary School in Memphis, Tennessee with first-class computing equipment and Box.net accounts. HP donated nearly 70 computers and other items, and Box gave each student and teacher a Lite account to help them organize, share and collaborate on their ongoing coursework. We also put together a guide explaining how they could best use Box with their new computing equipment, including accessing their classwork from anywhere, managing assignments and streamlining group projects.

A few weeks ago, the school held an exhibition to showcase the students’ first project completed with their new resources, the goal of which was to start a recycling program in the community. The new computing equipment was used to make fliers, conduct research, write essays, and create and give presentations.

The effort was spearheaded by Todd Bradley, executive vice president of HP’s Personal Systems Group, who received a letter from a Sherwood Elementary fifth grade student last year detailing how the school could benefit from such a donation. Todd shared the following sentiments about the project with us: “We’re grateful that Box.net could work with us to provide Sherwood Elementary with technology that will inspire its students to become more engaged and passionate about their schoolwork. Generosity like this opens doors for the youth of America by exposing them to the tools they’ll rely on to connect and collaborate when they begin their professional careers.”

From our family to yours, we wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
