Netvibes: Storage at your fingertips
About 3 months ago I got in contact with Tariq and Florent of Netvibes. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Netvibes, they are a personalized startpage that allows you to manage your RSS feeds and some integrated apps in a very cool Ajax environment. If you’re keeping track, these are the guys that started the web 2.0 homepage craze. Within a few conversations, we realized that there was a compelling partnership to be made. The idea was so simple, but it really changed the way we thought about our business. This integration brings new meaning to our phrase, “access your files from anywhere.” With partnerships like Netvibes, users will have the freedom and convenience of making their files available in an environment they already feel comfortable with. There is a lot more to come in this area, and we’re very excited to have Netvibes onboard with us.
For now, I will let Netvibes take the reigns in explaining how this module works. Check out their blog for more details. Thanks Tariq, Florent, and the rest of the Netvibes team for making this happen!

Nice job!

I signed up for a Netvibes account earlier today- funny to see this post turn up after I did that. What a great service! Having recently signed up for a paid Box.net accont and then seeing it work together with the Netvibes service puts the icing on the cake!
Keep up the wonderful work!

This is really great, have been using it since the day Netvibes turned this on. This is probably too much to ask for, but support for tags would make it even better.
By the way, thanks for fixing the Cyrillic bug!

Love it, Love it and love it more. This let’s me use my USB storage for apps and my Box.net account for files on the move. Very smart and very useful. I can’t do without it already and will surely subscribe for a paid account once I’ve filled it up. Nice touch that music files play in browser on my Netvibes homepage!

Great job. Thanks for this service. I’ve blogged today about the new service on Netvibes.

AWESOME idea, guys! This may have convinced me to switch my start page from Protopage to Netvibes.

Somebody mind educating me on how you delete a file on Box.net from within Netvibes ? Call me stupid, but I can’t figure it out.

Fine and dandy but what we’re all waiting for before we pay up and commit all our hard-earned data to you for safe keeping (well, me at least), is the desktop sync!!
When, oh when will we see it? Please?

Oh my freaking goodness. Are you kidding me? SWEEEEEEET.
March 22nd, 2006 at 7:01 pm
Thank you so much!!! This is a great addition. You have truly integrated my file and communication workflow.

I also love how linking is so simple. Just right click and copy the link location. It works for me, at least. I haven’t tried hotlinking images that way, though.

Works great, one question though, it shows the message “to upgrade to 5Gb etc”. But I am already a paying customer and was recently upgraded to 5Gb, is there any way to get rid of this sentence if you already have a pay account? It would make sense if this line would disappear depending on your account status.

Agree with Neil, this service will really be meaningful for me when sync is out. Any ETA?

If you’re into the possibilities that Box.net and this kind of thing opens up, you might find this blog entry stimulating: http://ianbeatty.com/blog/?p=16.

Users with a sub-account can’t seem to log in using the netvibes module. It keeps saying ‘No infos for this account, check your login and password and try again’ when trying to log in with the netvibes module.
Can anyone confirm? Any ideas?

DELETING???
Saw the question before, but didn’t find an answer. How do you delete files? Or is that Box.net little catch - once the files are uploaded there is no deleting. Eventually your account will hit 1 GB and you need to upgrade. Is this fake charity? Something like the first hit is always free, a marketing strategy inspired by back street drug pushers? Any words on this Box.net?

[...] 37signals have some ideas about how to stay nimble and are having tremendous success. The guys at Stronspace have no shortage of customers either since beginning their “Mixed Grill” offering. Ryan Carson’s DropSend hit 15,000 users in 4 months. They are on to bigger and better things, i.e. “Web App #2“. Box.net has been integrated with fellow Web 2.0′er Netvibes.com. Omnidrive’s features had better be kick ass if it is going to gain lost marketshare. Hopefully it will launch before Gmail drive does. All hope is lost otherwise. [...]

Really bad how Box.net and Netvibes both give the Delete issue the silent treatment. Well, soon Google’s box will be around with Do-No-Evil-Code and features. Problem solved!

Stefan,
In your account, simple click “edit” on the file and you can delete it. We removed this option from the right click menu to save space. We are considering incorporating it. Regarding netvibes, we just haven’t rolled out all the features yet.
