Box.net iPhone app available now

We’re big iPhone users at Box.net, which is why we’re super excited to launch our iPhone app, now available on the iTunes App Store. If you have an iPhone and Box.net, this is your killer app.

A free download, Box.net’s iPhone app lets you:

* Scroll through and view all the files and folders on your Box.net account. For viewing, the Box app supports all the file types supported by the iPhone, which include Microsoft Office files, PDFs, photos, audio and video.

* Share individual files or entire folders of files with any of your iPhone contacts.

* Snap pictures, upload them to Box and share them with any of your iPhone contacts, all within the Box application. You can also upload pictures stored in your iPhone’s photo library.

* Monitor updates to your account, such as files or folders you add or ones from people collaborating with you on your Box.net account.

* Automatically log-in to your Box.net account when the app is launched.

Get it now. We promise - as a genius once famously declared, “it scrolls like butter.”

UPDATE: Box.net’s app will also work on first-gen iPod touch models.

Why does the app only work on the 2nd generation ipod touch? This doesn’t make sense.

Colour me confused. The AppStore tells me it’s not compatible with the first-generation iPod touch, despite it running the same OS and having almost identical hardware to the second-generation.

Does the Box.net app have some bizarre dependency on the external speaker or hardware volume control buttons?

It also will not play *.m4a files. It says ‘cannot open file.’ The only way I can play them is if I go on my iphone to i.box.net. Any word on why that is?

  18. Great app. Nice to finally have a native interface. I have only 2 complains. Firstly, scrolling is very slow, even when over a wifi connection.
Secondly, can you add actions to images, so when viewing an image stored on Box.net, it treats it like Safari and gives you options to save or email the image?
Thanks and keep up the good work!

  19. Derick Valadao Says:

This is a very useful app. It rivals miGhtydocs for storing and accessing apps on the go. There’s a couple things I’d like to suggest:

    1. Full-screen viewing. I think it’s really important to have the ability to view my files without the interface elements. Given how small the screen space it, every pixel counts.

    2. Landscape document views.

    3. Download progress bars.

Besides that, very useful app. Implement these fixes and you’ll have a winner on the iphone for sure.

I cannot save uploaded pictures to my iPhone.

I uploade them from the web and cannot save them on my iPhone. Is this an intended limitation?

    October 14th, 2009 at 8:39 am

  29. Sean Says:

Hey Andy - this isn’t an intended limitation. We just didn’t happen to design it into the app the first time around :) But that’s great feedback that I’ll be sure to pass on to our mobile team. We sincerely apologize for that - hopefully we can add that feature and more in future updates. Thanks for coming by the blog! Feel free to reach out to us anytime.
